Architects of the 21st century work across borders. They are part of an international network and the language of communication for architectural competitions is generally English. For this reason we offer our students the chance to equip themselves for this professional challenge by spending a semester abroad within or outside Europe. It is also possible to complete an internship abroad.
A semester abroad can be completed at any one of a number of international partner universities offering compatible courses. The requirements for a semester abroad are that the student applies in good time and has studied satisfactorily. Our International Coordinator will support students in the application process.
Students can complete either their second or third semester abroad. They also have an opportunity to write their degree thesis while spending their fourth semester at a partner institution. The principal supervisor must be based at FH JOANNEUM, however.
Students are given information about the options for spending time abroad at an introductory event at the beginning of the academic year.
The semester abroad is sponsored by the Erasmus programme for European universities or by the Marshall Plan Foundation for American universities, and is subject to approval by the head of degree programme.
The main criterion for our choice of partner universities is the similarity of curriculum, course content and specialisations offered. Further aspects of inter-university cooperation include interest in collaboration on international projects and mobility support.
Our International Coordinator will be happy to help you with any queries regarding the semester abroad.
