Admissions

What happens after the admissions process?

How is the admissions process assessed?

Every part of the admissions process is individually assessed. Your overall result will determine whether or not you receive a place on the course.

Tip

Your final school report and the form of your application also count and can give you a bit of an advantage in your overall assessment.

How will I know if I have been accepted?

We will inform you in writing whether you are offered a place on the degree programme two weeks after the end of the admissions process at the latest.

This applies to all application dates.

I have been accepted. What do I do now?

Congratulations on being awarded a place! In the written confirmation of your place, we will also tell you what you need to do when registering with us as a student.

Tip

New to the town? Use the time before you start your course to find out about accommodation options and campus life on-site. More details can be found in the pages about the Campus Graz, Campus Kapfenberg and Campus Bad Gleichenberg.

I have received a letter of acknowledgement (“Evidenzschreiben”). What does that mean?

Degree programmes offering additional application rounds are currently not able to put candidates on the waiting list because the ranking may change after the next round. You have therefore received a letter of acknowledgement stating that your application will be kept on file and will be informed in writing whether or not you will be granted a place after the next round.

I am on the waiting list. What does that mean?

The waiting list is for those applicants who only missed out on a place by a small margin. These applicants will be informed of their number on the waiting list. If you are on the list, there is still a chance: if one of the applicants offered a place does not wish to accept this place, it will be reallocated and the candidates on the waiting list will move up the list.

Tip

Please be patient if you are on the waiting list. If a place becomes free, we will immediately inform you by telephone. This can happen up to the end of the first week of the course.

I have not been accepted. What can I do now?

If you have not received a place, this is no reason to doubt yourself. Take some time to think about your options in peace and quiet.

Have you submitted an alternative application?

If so, the admission procedure for your alternative application will start automatically.

Would you like to apply for the same course again in the next academic year?

Give it a try! There are a few students who are accepted on their second time of applying. They are often the students who are particularly motivated and committed to the course because they know exactly what they want. Applying a second time is well regarded and not a disadvantage in any way.

Are there any other courses you are interested in?

Think about whether the course in question is really suited to you. Perhaps another field might be better. Find out about the courses on offer at other institutes and take a broader perspective.

Tip

Most degree programmes also carry out an admissions process in summer or autumn. In this case, you can switch your application to a different programme with a later admissions process. If you wish to switch your application to a different course, simply email your new choice to bewerbung@fh-joanneum.at. Apply right now! If you are accepted, you could start your studies in the winter semester.
