Admissions

How do I apply?

You can apply if you meet the admission requirements.

Step 1: Gather the required documents.

Your application must contain the following documents:

  • a signed letter of application

  • a signed CV

  • a documentary evidence that you have completed a relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification
    This evidence is not required for FH JOANNEUM graduates.

  • a Transcript of Records for verifying compliance with the admission requirements.
    This evidence is not required for FH JOANNEUM graduates.

Tip

If you do not yet have your Austrian documents (Bachelor or Diploma certificate) at the time of submitting your application, you can submit them by the start of your course. Separate guidelines apply for documents submitted by international applicants. If you have any questions please send an email to bewerbung@fh-joanneum.at.

The application documents (with the exception of original documents) can be submitted in German or English.

  • a proof of qualification for university entrance
    This evidence is not required for FH JOANNEUM graduates.

  • a proof of proficiency in English
    The level of competence must be equivalent to Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (see www.goethe.de).
    Proof of proficiency in English must be provided in the form of a TOEFL Certificate (min. 87 points), a TELC Certificate (B2), a Cambridge Certificate (First Certificate in English, FCE), an IELTS Certificate (5.0), a PTE Academic Certificate (Pearson Test of English; min. 59 points), an Austrian secondary school leaving certificate or another equivalent school certificate.

  • a copy of your citizenship certificate or passport
    This evidence is not required for FH JOANNEUM graduates.

  • a PDF including

  • the web-link to your online portfolio in the first line of the first page
  • a list of all the work pieces with correct attribution of the authorship. In case of teamwork the applicant’s responsibilities have to be clearly outlined.
  • screenshots of all pages of the online portfolio (also screenshots of videos, animations or interactive applications).
Guidelines for your portfolio
  • Only online portfolios are accepted.
  • The portfolio should comprise approximately 10 to 20 representative work pieces.
  • The selection and form of the work samples is totally up to the applicant, but should correspond to the applicant’s range of interests and competencies.
  • All media formats are allowed – e.g. graphics, illustrations, photos, texts, videos, animations, apps, audio productions, web sites, media installations, project documentations, and the like.
  • All descriptive texts must be written in German or English.
  • The online portfolio has to be accessible from 20 March until 31 October 2023.

Tip

Adhere to the application deadline and ensure that your documents are complete and signed before you send them off. Only then will your application be accepted.

Step 3: Wait to be invited to the admissions process.

Your application will be checked by the Study Administration division. You will receive an email to confirm that your documents are complete and that you meet the admission requirements within two weeks of submission.

You will receive an email with the time and place of the admissions process two or three weeks after the application deadline.
