My internship as a software developer for KNAPP AG.
Michaela Neuhold

Job description: Software developer

Company: KNAPP AG

Place: Hart bei Graz, Austria

I completed my internship from March to May 2019.

What I did:

My job was to further develop test software. This included analysing the existing software structure, developing a new configuration option and implementing additional features.

Why I enjoyed my internship:

I was able to work on my project under supervision, but still independently. And it was fun discussing programming details. I had friendly work colleagues and was well integrated into the team.

What I learned:

It was extremely exciting to gain an insight into the workings of a larger company, where the structures and processes are completely different from what you are used to in smaller companies. I was also able to expand my software development skills and learned how to apply different approaches.

My biggest success / My greatest experience:

When I started working on the project, I found it quite comprehensive and unclear in some parts. After some time, however, I gained a better understanding of the program processes and their functionalities and I was able to provide my own input. That certainly gave me a sense of achievement.

How I secured the internship:

After I had sent an unsolicited application to KNAPP I was invited to an interview and was finally accepted for the internship.

What I want to do in the future:

I’d like to work as a software developer, because this profession gives me the opportunity to play an active role in shaping technologies that will be relevant in the future. The internship gave me a deep insight into this field of activity and strengthened my decision to pursue my chosen career path.
