Cooperation with industrial partners offers us the unique opportunity to combine the experience and expertise of the industry with the bold and visionary ideas of young people.
The Institute of Industrial Design focuses on the design of products and processes. We design intelligent objects and user experiences which factor in cultural, social and ecological developments. Our core tasks include the sustainable use of innovative materials and focusing on socially relevant topics (social sustainability). The complexity of social and ecological change requires future designers to engage in interdisciplinary thinking, critical reflection, and bold interaction.
Design is also able to create an individual cultural identity, to unite and to touch people and to question established behavioural patterns. In a globalised world in particular, design is also a search for alternatives, autonomy and identity
Collaboration opportunities
- Exploration of research questions as part of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses
- Collaboration with partners in research contracts or funded research projects
Cooperation projects
A cooperation project involves active exchange between companies and students. Projects are designed to develop scenarios and perspectives of a potential future, together with the resulting design concepts and visions. The cooperation between students and companies means mutual enrichment.
Our cooperation partners can delve into an independent discourse on the future of their business fields, while our students gain a practical insight into the complex structures and processes found in companies. This opens up completely new avenues and approaches going far beyond the pure design research of our cooperation partners.
Many of our partners contact us without having the specific aim of finding concrete design solutions to a particular problem, but rather to discuss social, cultural and technical changes and to cooperate with real game changers. As a university and research institution, we also see ourselves as a sparring partner for industry since we can conduct our research independently of any sectoral standards.
