Green Travel

For universities participating in the Erasmus+ program, this means that in addition to applying for and supporting environmentally friendly measures, they must also take steps themselves to reduce the negative impact of mobility on the environment. The European Commission will therefore support environmentally friendly “green” travel in the Erasmus+ program with financial grants from program funds in the future.

Students who use environmentally friendly means of transport to travel to and from their destinations will be eligible for the Top-up for Green Travel, worth a total of 50 euros. Low-emission modes of transportation include train, bus and carpooling. You are entitled to the additional amount if more than half of the trip is made by a low-emission mode of transport.

If students travel by lower-emission means of transport, they will receive an additional two travel days in total (as of academic year 2023/24). The travel days count towards the funded duration, but not towards the minimum duration.

Fewer Opportunities

To ensure equal and equitable access to the program and equal opportunities for participants from all backgrounds, universities are encouraged to provide the best possible support to participants with potential barriers. The “fewer opportunities” group of participants will be supported in their endeavors by a flat-rate top-up of € 250 per montht. The additional support (“fewer opportunities” Top-Up) for persons with fewer opportunities is given to:

• Persons with a disability.
• Persons with a chronic illness, if this results in increased financial expenses during the stay abroad (in comparison to the stay in the
  sending country).
• Students with child(ren) who take the child or children with them on the Erasmus+ stay.

Inclusion support

In the case of an ERASMUS+ funded mobility, there is the possibility of additional financial support for real costs, which can be granted in particular to participants with physical, mental or health impairments or students with caring responsibilities. The inclusion support covers additional costs that participants incur in the preparation of the mobility or during the stay abroad. Please contact the International Office at least three months before the start of your stay abroad if you would like to apply for inclusion support.

Digitalization

In order to further advance the digitization process of the Erasmus+ programme, project promoters have committed themselves by signing the ECHE (Erasmus Charter for Higher Education) to take timely measures that ensure the implementation of the minimum requirements for the digital management of mobility. In addition, digital learning and exchange formats are supported with the promotion of “blended mobility “ and “blended intensive programs “.

Civic Engagement

In order to strengthen democratic participation and civic engagement in civil society, universities are encouraged to support and organize activities that enable students to become civically engaged and actively participate in their local society.
