The academic year 2023/2024 marks the first full year of FH JOANNEUM as part of a European University Alliance. What happened during this year regarding EU4DUAL? The project team looks back on an eventful year with a review of the most important highlights.

Since January 2023, FH JOANNEUM has been part of the European University Alliance EU4DUAL together with eight other universities. The main goal of EU4DUAL is to create the world’s largest dual higher education institution. To raise awareness of EU4DUAL among staff, students and the public, FH JOANNEUM regularly hosts information events and project meetings.

The EU4DUAL kick-off for the 2023/2024 academic year took place at FH JOANNEUM’s Erasmus Days in October: the EU4DUAL project team informed about EU4DUAL mobilities and an EU4DUAL fruit tree was planted on the FH JOANNEUM campus. It stands for the many fruits that EU4DUAL will bear in the future. This was followed by a Research Speed Networking Event in November, which focused on the many opportunities for research within the framework of EU4DUAL.

The new year 2024 got off to a sweet start for EU4DUAL at FH JOANNEUM: the first anniversary of EU4DUAL at FH JOANNEUM was celebrated together at a breakfast with employees. This was followed by an important meeting in February – at the Rector’s Council Meeting, the rectors of the EU4DUAL universities at FH JOANNEUM took stock of the progress made in establishing the university alliance and set important milestones for the current year.

As student involvement is an important part of EU4DUAL, there is a Student’s Council. This Student’s Council consists of student representatives from the nine EU4DUAL universities, including three dual students from FH JOANNEUM. They were introduced in a blog post in February 2024. We also received a first experience report of an outgoing exchange student at our EU4DUAL partner university SAVONIA in Finland.

The alliance highlight of the year was the first EU4DUAL Annual Conference, held in Malta in early April 2024. More than 200 participants from universities and industry partners attended the conference. Representatives of FH JOANNEUM were also present and exchanged ideas with the other universities.

FH JOANNEUM’s first international EU4DUAL Staff Week in mid-May was the last major event of the academic year. FH JOANNEUM welcomed 21 participants from eleven countries to a diverse and enriching week on the topic of “Future of Work”.

The EU4DUAL project team is already busy planning several events for the upcoming academic year2024/2025. The Erasmus Day, which will be celebrated at FH JOANNEUM on October 17 2024, will be the first event of the new academic year.

We are looking forward to a new year of EU4DUAL!
