The exhibition “We are making Graz a language city” makes a guest appearance at FH JOANNEUM Graz.

People from over 160 countries live in Graz! This linguistic and cultural diversity in Graz is the focus of the travelling exhibition developed by the European Foreign Language Centre Association together with the Institute of English Studies at the University of Graz.

During the one month exhibition “We are making Graz a language city” showed stories and voices of eight fellow citizens who enrich our city with their cultures and languages in the foyer of the FH JOANNEUM campus building in Graz.

The preservation of linguistic diversity and the promotion of multilingualism are central concerns of the Language Network Graz, which was founded in 2007 around the European Centre for Foreign Languages of the Council of Europe and now already comprises over 30 partner organisations – including FH JOANNEUM – from the fields of education, culture and administration. The abstract concept of “linguistic and cultural diversity” becomes tangible with people’s personal stories and the diversity of our society becomes visible as part of our everyday life.

The stories are available as audio downloads via QR code and give us an insight into the lives and languages of the protagonists.
