Creative Bodies – Creative Minds

Creative Bodies - Creative Minds

The international and interdisciplinary conference CREATIVE BODIES – CREATIVE MINDS combines various aspects of the topics of gender studies, creativity and do-it-yourself (DIY). It has been taking place every two years at the University of Graz. Since 2018, students from the ‘Journalism and Public Relations’ programme have been responsible for the advance communication and live reporting via Instagram and Mastodon. In addition, they create own contributions, which are presented and discussed at the conference in front of an international audience from scientific and artistic fields.

Aim: interdisciplinary exchange

The conference aims to bring together the various results of individual fields of study. Particular attention is paid to the interplay between creativity and gender aspects, whereby the following questions, among others, are considered:

  • What forms of creativity exist and how are gender aspects related to them?
  • What has this looked like in the past, and how does it look in the present?
  • How does culture change and shape our own views on gender?

Contributions from FH students

2024

For the third edition of the conference in 2024, which focused primarily on the topic of ‘creativity and protest’, a team of students produced the documentary ‘Who decides…?’ which deals with artists outside of the commercial mainstream in Graz. The film not only paints a vivid picture of local scenes, but also raises broader political questions.

2021

The film ‘What if… we lived in a gender sensitive world’ was produced for the second edition of the conference in 2021. A kaleidoscope of questions and answers sheds light on the topics of equality, gender sensitivity and creativity. The film shows in an informative and entertaining way how people on the street, students and experts deal with the current topic today. And at the same time paints a picture of how diverse Graz is.
