The interaction with plants in the tropical house gives children the opportunity to become acquainted with the topic in various ways. It is important that children have the opportunity to escape everyday school life and discover new things. The aim of this thesis is to convey a grasp of child‒oriented design by illustrating the botanical garden as a place for extracurricular learning.
This thesis describes the development of an educational concept for children between the ages of 6 and 11, with a main focus on the topic of ‘Tropical Rainforest’. A guided tour through the tropical house enables groups of students to interactively explore the subject first hand through the use of a specially devised education‒box, which includes all of the elements and materials needed for the discovery tour. Above all, the target group is introduced to the diversity of plants and their individual characteristics in an age‒appropriate way.
