FHJ Arctic Expedition Team

Das FHJ Arctic Expedition Team führt Forschungen in Grönland durch

The Institute for Industrial Management organizes an expedition to Greenland in summer 2025 as part of a new interdisciplinary course ‘Arctic Technology (5ECTS/4SWS)’  and is founding the FHJ Arctic Expedition Team for this purpose.

The Arctic provides a unique and exciting environment for testing and operating new technologies from various domains such as industry, aviation, automotive, health, etc. The Arctic is also warming three times as fast as the global average and field measurements are therefore particularly valuable as climate indicators.

Despite these points, field measurements are very rare in the Arctic due to the logistical challenges. The FHJ Arctic Expedition Team will develop new use cases and technical prototypes to support the research stations of the University of Copenhagen and the newly established Austrian Polar research station of the University of Graz in the field of automatisation and digitalisation to enable high-resolution and year-round field measurements in the Arctic.

Goal

The goal of the FHJ Arctic Expedition Team is to train the next generation of Arctic experts. All team members shall gain a good overview on technology and research topics relevant for the Arctic and shall be prepared to independently lead future Arctic expeditions. The expedition will be organized and led by the FHJ Arctic Expedition Team. Stefan Muckenhuber and Thomas Gölles will actively support the team during every phase of the expedition and guide the team in Greenland.
