Roboexotica Festival 2024

@FH JOANNEUM - Michael Aldrian

As part of the “Interaction Design” course in the 5th semester of the bachelor’s degree in Information Design, the students were challenged to develop a project for the Roboexotica Festival in Vienna.

The Roboexotica Festival, with its 25+ year legacy, stands at the forefront of merging cocktail robotics, art and technology. It not only showcases innovative technologies and creative cocktail concoctions but also offers a diverse program of workshops, performances and a vibrant Nightline. Emphasizing international artist collaborations and highlighting past projects, the festival celebrates the spirit of DIY culture, engaging students and professionals in technology and design to explore, build and innovate in an environment that values experimentation and the potential of “what could be.”

In the course “Interaction Design” during the 5th semester, students are challenged to develop a project for Roboexotica. The outcome are four very distinct interactive installations that explore the fusion of drinks, technology, psychology and sound.

Mission: Roboserve: Amelie Bund, Johannes Riedmüller, Mathias Freßner, Nico Högl, Anna Maier

How do they serve cocktails in a galaxy far far away? Our installation puts visitors in the role of an undercover robot whose mission is to serve drinks in a bar located in outter space. To succeed, they must master three skills: perfectly filling glasses, sliding drinks across the bar with precision, and putting a smile across your guest’s faces. The visitor operates behind a digital counter extended by a virtual screen, pouring drinks using a pivoting bottle and launching glasses with a calculated flick. Aim well for happy customers—miss, and risk soaking an innocent guest, which might blow your cover!👽

Datacolada: Beyza-Nur Kilinc, Hanna Schild, Jasmin Fassler, Hana Pavlíčková, Lea Tüchler

Step into the world of Datacolada, where cocktails meet curiosity. Through five screens, we share interactive insights into alcohol consumption behavior, based on a pre-event survey. Each screen tells a unique story, combining data and creativity. You can also shape the future of this project by taking part in a new survey. Don’t forget to grab one of our six collectible postcards, each featuring a popular cocktail and its recipe – perfect to take home or share with friends. Explore, reflect and sip with Datacolada

Mixology: Anja Kljajic, Melina Trummer, Julia Trummer, Michael Aldrian

Good cocktails are like good songs: they perfectly match your taste. Mixology combines music with the art of cocktails: Put the headphones on, lay the ingredients on the mixing table, and off you go! Let your curiosity guide you and try different combinations until you’re happy with your creation. What happens next? You’ll have to discover that for yourself, on-site.

SYNESTHESIA – The Multisensory Cocktail Experience: Sanja Vujakovic, Ethan Cwiek, Julia Bühler, Ekaterina Shargorodskaia, Muhammad Ahmed Turk

This immersive installation enables a multi-sensory exploration of cocktails. Four seasonal cocktails come to life through animations and audiovisual elements. Unique surface textures invite exploration of the sense of touch, while scent cards enhance the aromatic experience of each cocktail’s flavors.
