SME goes mobile

Smartphones and tablets have changed people’s online behaviour. As the most important pillar of Austria’s economy, small and medium-sized enterprises need to address this issue and meet the challenges it poses. The project “SME goes mobile” helps small and medium-sized enterprises to detect security flaws in their IT infrastructure, use mobile technology developments in their marketing and administration activities and optimise IT use throughout the company.

For many people today, downloading, installing and using apps is part of everyday life. This poses new challenges for small and medium-sized companies not able to draw on the resources of an in-house IT department to work on the development of their apps. A study carried out as part of the “SME goes mobile” project showed that only some 20 % of all SMEs use apps for marketing purposes. “SME goes mobile” supports companies by helping them to make efficient use of the opportunities available via smartphones and tablets with innovative ideas, concepts and free apps.

Scan my SME

Using the SME Security Scan, companies can carry out an initial evaluation of their own IT security at the click of a button. A range of tools on a server specially set up at FH JOANNEUM enable quick and reliable detection of weaknesses in IT security. The security database is updated on a daily basis.

SME Inventory

The inventory component or SME Inventory app gives SMEs an up-to-date overview of where their IT devices are and who is using them. Access to this administration tool is available via PCs and mobile devices. Apart from the existing portfolio of offers and services, the “SME goes mobile” project also views itself as a point of contact for business: Austrian SMEs are actively encouraged to contribute their ideas and wishes for new applications. They have access to technical know-how and are supported in adapting IT solutions to their specific requirements.

Services offered as part of the “SME goes mobile” project are free of charge to small and medium-sized companies. This also includes use of the online portal SME goes mobile and the associated publication, which is available as a free download.
