More and more designers are rightly concerned with their own role in society and the impact and influence their work has on the population. The question of responsibility in design is not a new one, yet it has gained renewed attention, especially in recent years, with increasing awareness of equality and sustainability. Much attention has been paid to product and industrial designers in particular. One area that is somewhat in the background in this respect is that of communication design, which nevertheless has a significant influence on people: Everything we see communicates with us — and influences us.
The question of the responsibility of designers is an important one, and prospective communication designers in particular must become aware of this. This master’s thesis should encourage people to really think about it and find their own answers. Ultimately, everyone must decide for themselves how they work, how important ethical issues are for them, which assignments they accept and bear the respective person- al and social consequences.
