A chassis dynamometer is used to mount and measure the entire vehicle. It allows reproducible measurements to be taken under real-world driving conditions in a lab environment. The alternative is to take measurements on a test route, but here availability and weather as variables cannot be influenced, or only minimally. Our dynamometer can be conditioned for temperature and humidity. It can be used for the following tasks:
- Emission and consumption measurements,
- Performance measurements,
- Engine and/or transmission tuning,
- Endurance runs with a driver robot.
- WLTP
It is primarily used for emission measurements during statutory drive cycles for the purposes of vehicle homologation. Accompanying development measurements are also made during the test phase. The measurements yield the concentration of exhaust components in g/km and fuel consumption in l/100 km. It is possible to apply and simulate a range of different statutory driving cycles. Current requirements can also be met by measuring hybrid and electric vehicles. In this case, the electricity consumption is linked to the kilometres driven. The results are presented in terms of electrical range, electricity consumption in Wh/km and recharging energy in Wh.
The current legislation (WLTP) also requires that the measurements on the chassis dynamometer are checked against those collected when driving on the road (RDE – Real Driving Emission). Consequently, validation drives on the dynamometer are followed by comparable drives under actual road traffic conditions.
