Key data:

Job description: Function Software Developer
Company: Magna Powertrain AG & Co KG
Place: Graz, Austria
I did my internship from March to May 2015.

What I did:

My field of responsibility involved incorporating tools into the series development tool chain. The test tools ran independently but needed to be controlled using a joint programme interface. The aim was to achieve complete automation without user interaction and to provide developers with useful assistance. The development environment was based on Matlab, Simulink and Targetlink with test tools of the company Model Engineering Solutions (MES), based in Berlin. These tools offer programs to check the software for complexity, transparency, conformity of variables and other aspects.

Why I enjoyed my internship:

The three months I spent at Magna Powertrain were really interesting for me and presented lots of exciting new challenges. I was able to gain useful insight into working life in a large, world-renowned company like Magna. I had clear goals and specifications yet it was largely down to me how I met them. In summary, I really enjoyed my internship at Magna in Lannach and would really recommend anyone to complete an internship there.

What I learned:

I learned to develop software independently using Matlab.

My biggest success / My greatest experience:

The positive feedback I received from my company supervisor and head of department following presentation of the finished program.

How I secured the internship:

I was able to make relatively quick contact with the HR office through an acquaintance at the company. I was then introduced to various internship topics and selected the one I wanted to pursue.

What I want to do in the future:

I really enjoyed the internship and took the opportunity to continue working for the company once I had finished. I look forward to tackling future challenges in the field of software development.
