Key data

Job description: E-health
Company: Geriatric Health Care Centres of the City of Graz (GGZ)
I work in: Graz, Austria
I’ve worked here since: 2015

What I do:

Since June 2015, I have been employed in the ‘e-Health’ division of the Geriatric Health Care Centres of the City of Graz (GGZ). One of my first tasks was to introduce the electronic health record ‘ELGA’ at all of the GGZ facilities – the Albert Schweitzer Clinic and four nursing homes. My area of responsibility also includes process management tasks, Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) and telemedicine.

Why I love my job:

I particularly enjoy the combination of organisational and technical issues in my ‘e-Health’ role. I see myself as a link between the staff who work closely with patients and the IT sector. At GGZ, I am involved with various projects and handle a broad range of issues.

Important skills in my job:

Accuracy and joined-up thinking.

My biggest accomplishment so far:

One of my biggest successes was the successful introduction of the electronic health record ‘ELGA’ at the Geriatric Health Care Centres of the City of Graz. Together with the Styrian Hospital Corporation (KAGES), other hospitals in Styria and the Vienna Hospital Association (KAV), we were able to start out as a pioneer of ELGA in December 2015. I was impressed by the scale and complexity of the project and the good collaboration with the players and health service providers involved.

How I found my current job:

I became aware of the Geriatric Health Care Centres of the City of Graz during my Master’s programme in e-Health. I was able to carry out part of my Master’s project with the GGZ, focusing on a practical comparison of the four largest quality management systems used in Austria, implementation of a benefit analysis and compilation of a list of criteria based on interviews with experts and literature research on decision-making support for hospitals, care facilities and mobile services. I secured my post in ‘e-Health’ by applying to a job advert.

What I learned for this job during my studies:

During my Master’s course in e-Health, I attended lectures in a range of fields including software development, quality management, process management, data protection and data security. The topic of ELGA was intensively addressed during the course and gave me a good basis for the practical implementation. I think the combination of health care management and technology makes sense and is in demand among potential employers.

I am:

Motivated to be involved with future developments in e-Health.
