Erasmus hotspot in the north of Europe
It was the middle of August, when I packed my bags to start my semester abroad in Finland. For the next four months I would attend the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences located in Helsinki or more precisely in Espoo. The courses, which I had selected prior to the start of the semester, covered topics such as Internet of Things, Virtualization and Cloud Computing and IT Security, and were all offered by the university’s IT department. Thanks to the stable COVID incidence figures, I was fortunate enough to attend the courses on site and could enjoy the very pleasant atmosphere on campus.
Every year a large number of exchange students from all over the world come to Metropolia University and Helsinki. It therefore was very easy to get in contact with like-minded people and make new friends. Along with my new friends, I discovered a myriad of locations in and around Helsinki and embraced the leisure activities the city has to offer: enjoying the public or private saunas, singing karaoke in pubs, exploring the surrounding islands, using campfire pits in parks, tasting Finnish food and drinks and much more.
