Requirements

To graduate from the degree programme, you must:

  • successfully complete all the classes
  • produce a Bachelor’s thesis which must receive a pass mark
  • pass the Bachelor’s examination

Your title on graduation will be “Bachelor of Arts in Business (BA)“.

Bachelor’s thesis

Our students write a Bachelor’s thesis during the sixth semester. The thesis is supervised by internal lecturers and research assistants. Selected external lecturers or experts can also be appointed as supervisors by the head of degree programme. The thesis topics can be proposed by the student or supervisor.

The Bachelor’s thesis presents the current state of science on a defined topic with a focus on literature research and criticism and a discussion of the results. The deadlines are the same for students writing their thesis abroad or in Austria.

Bachelor’s examination

The examination board consists of three people, one of whom acts as the chair. The chair is either the head of degree programme or a faculty member. Examiners can include any competent lecturers from the fields of ‘health’ and ‘tourism and industry’, but each examination should include one lecturer from each of the two specialist fields. The content of the examination should also cover both fields. Specialist fields can account for max. 20%. Knowledge of the course scripts is a requirement and cannot be used as the subject matter of the examination.

A Poster must be created in English to present the Bachelor’s thesis in advance of the examination. The examination will take the following format:

  • Poster presentation on the thesis in English. Duration: approx. 6 minutes.
  • Discussion of the poster in either English or German. Students can choose the language themselves. Duration: approx. 8 minutes.
  • Discussion about the links between the thesis and subjects of the curriculum in German. Duration: approx. 20 minutes.

After graduation

As a graduate of the practical and science-based Bachelor’s course in Health and Tourism Management, you can specialise further by pursuing a Master’s degree in Health, Tourism and Sport Managementat FH JOANNEUM or enter the world of work straight away.
