Key subject areas

Management and organisation

Our work-friendly Master’s degree programme in Health Management in Tourism will train you to be a manager capable of shaping and implementing sustainable developments in the leisure sector and in health tourism. The course will provide in-depth knowledge in specific areas of the health tourism industry as well as solid qualifications in the fields of management and organisational governance.

Specialisations

Our specialisations centre around the professional profile of an academically qualified health and leisure manager. During the second and third semester, you can further your own career plans and interests in the modules of Sports and Nutrition, Tourism, Public Health and Health Management, and Events and Leisure Management.

Real-world assignments and cooperation

Real-world assignments in the health and leisure industry form the basis for the two-semester project which allows you to gather comprehensive experience in project management and collaborate with customers and team members. The professional internship during the fourth semester paves your way to working at a company and lays the foundations for a successful professional future.

What specialisations are available?

Second semester: Sports and Nutrition and Tourism’

During the second semester, you can design your own course by specialising in Sports and Nutrition or Tourism.

As part of the Sports and Nutrition module, you will explore the links between fitness programmes and nutrition and learn what health-oriented sport really involves and what impact trend and lifestyle sports can have on the mind and body. You will also learn more about the tourism and economic aspects of sport.

If you choose the Tourism option, you will learn the specifics of urban or rural tourism, devise case studies for destinations or explore the mega-trends of nature tourism and sustainability. Spa management is a core theme here – you will be required to devise an implementation concept for a real spa resort.

Third semester: Event and Leisure Management and Public Health and Health Management

During the third semester, you can choose to specialise in Event and Leisure Management or Public Health and Health Management.

As part of the Event and Leisure Management module, you will cover the full scope of the events industry: you will plan and implement real-life projects, explore issues concerning sponsorship, event marketing and events technology and take a glimpse behind the scenes at large-scale events. The module is rounded off by a socio-educational look at entertainment and guest relations. After all, each event should be an experience which sticks in the memory of the guests.

As part of the Public Health and Health Management module, you will focus on the health opportunities of different groups in the population and learn about the global impact of disease. You will explore the trends and risks of diets and learn to apply this knowledge in management roles at spa, rehab and private clinics with a view to health promotion and economic efficiency.
