How do I apply?

If you meet the course requirements, you can apply for a place on the programme.

Step 1: Gather the required documents.

Letter of motivation
Tip:

In the letter, explain precisely why you are interested in this course and why you would be suitable. Discuss what you want in your future career. Describe any experience you already have in the topics covered by the course. Explain a bit about yourself and about your strengths, weaknesses and personality.

CV
Tip:

List your education together with any additional qualifications you have in chronological order in your CV and include any certificates or documents as proof. Do you already have some professional experience? Completed an internship? Had a holiday job? Been involved in social work? Then include all of these activities. Proof of qualification for university entrance

You must provide documentary evidence that you meet the formal requirements for study. Enclose the following documents with your application

  • a copy of your secondary school leaving certificate and final school report or
  • proof of qualification for university entrance and/or certificates of additional exams.
Tip:

If you do not yet have your Austrian documents (certificate of university entrance qualification) at the time of submitting your application, you can submit them by the start of your course. A copy of your citizenship certificate or passport
You have international documents proving that you have obtained the general university entrance qualification and/or you are not an Austrian citizen?

Then you’ll need to meet certain requirements. For more information please go to International Applicants.

Step 2: Digital portfolio in PDF format

The portfolio in PDF format (max. 20 MB) should contain a representative selection (no more than 30 pieces) of your work, demonstrating your design interests and skills: e.g. drawings, graphic work, paintings and the like. Photographic work and samples relating to industrial design may also be submitted. Three dimensional samples may only be submitted as photographs.

The following documents should be attached to the portfolio (in the sequence given below):

  • a list of the pieces of work included, together with title, year of creation and source (school, study, work, leisure)
  • a written statement certifying that the samples are your own work and your intellectual property

Tip:

Please be sure that your documents are complete before uploading and sending them. The letter of motivation, CV, portfolio and citizenship certificate or passport copy must be submitted by the application deadline in order for your application to be considered in the admissions process. All other documents can be submitted at a later date. The applicable deadlines can be seen in your account.

Step 4: You will receive an invitation to the creative exam and interview.

Your application will be checked by the Study Administration division. You will receive an email to confirm that your documents are complete and that you meet the admission requirements within two weeks of submission.

You will be invited to the assessment interview and creative exam if you meet the admission requirements, your portfolio has been approved by the admission committee and your application documents are complete and were submitted on time.

You will also receive an email containing information on the creative exam.
