What is the admissions process?

The admissions process consists of:

  • a two-part aptitude test,
  • an interview with the admissions committee and
  • an overall assessment of previous qualifications and practical professional experience based on the portfolio and/or the application

Language proficiency will be tested in the course of the admissions process by conducting the aptitude test and the admissions interview in German and English.

Two-part aptitude test

You will be invited to proceed in the admissions process if you meet the entry requirements and your application documents are complete and were submitted on time.

The aptitude test is designed to show whether you are suited to the course and will take place on a fixed date.

  • The first part of the aptitude test consists of a critical analysis of a given design object and takes 1 hour.
  • The second part of the test consists of developing a design concept on a given topic within four hours.

The personal interview

All candidates are invited to a personal interview.

The interview gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your motivation, suitability and talent for the chosen course of study and a subsequent career in this field.

The interview will be conducted by the admissions committee of the degree programme. It will last around 20 minutes.

Assessment of previous qualifications and professional experience

In addition to assessing relevant previous qualifications based on evidence of professional experience including the portfolio and the application, the following criteria will also be taken into account in the admission decision:

  • previous degrees
  • motivation for choosing the programme
  • design, visual communication and technical skills
  • proficiency in the software required for the Master’s degree programme
  • relevant practical experience
