The Styrian-based waste treatment company Komptech works on its expansion in Western Europe. In the winter semester 2021, they received valuable support from the 3rd-semester bachelor students of International Management.
Komptech – Tackling the Green transition with Austrian ingenuity

Februar 2022Komptech is a leading international technology supplier of machinery and systems for the mechanical and mechanical-biological treatment of solid waste and the treatment of biomass as a renewable energy source. The product range includes over 30 different types of machines, that cover all key process steps in modern waste handling – shredding, separation, and biological treatment. The focus is always on innovative technology and solutions that ensure maximum customer benefit. To achieve the European Union targets for 2030 and 2050, the waste treatment market will significantly increase, at the same time becoming more sophisticated, relying on profound sorting technology.
In this semester-long project, the students from the 3rd semester of the bachelor programme International Managment acted as consultants analysing the markets in France, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The main objective of the project was to conduct market research for assessment of the market potential of the selected Western European countries, as well as the brand awareness of Komptech across these markets.
Within the framework of the project, the students as consultants had the chance to visit Komptech’s client Müllex Umweltsäuberungs GmbH. Mr. Christian Kulmer, Komptech’s Area Sales Manager was their host who provided them with the opportunity “to smell the business to understand it”, presenting them the driving forces in the waste treatment business. This course is based on a combination of instructor-led lectures, excursions with guest lectures, individual and group work, and group discussions.

Due to this project, we had also the chance to get another approach and see things from a different angle. Further, the focus on brand positioning was of interest, as we had an opportunity to cooperate with our next customer generation and to understand their approach to marketing awareness. With the results from this project, we can make our next steps and get very helpful and crucial information about various European Markets
This project provided a real-world experience for the students and an external perspective for Komptech. Finally, both sides were very satisfied with the collaboration and the results achieved.
