“As I was very interested in gaining experience abroad, I decided to complete my second computed tomography internship in Switzerland.
The internship at the university hospital in Zürich (USZ) was an excellence and most instructive experience. I was well integrated into the international team of radiologic technologists (RT) right from the beginning. I was permitted to undertake tasks independently after a short training period, and was also permitted to carry out procedures on patients–such as taking blood–which are the preserve of doctors here in Austria.
As the university hospital in Zürich has concluded a cooperation contract with Siemens to test and develop the latest equipment in clinical practice, I was also able to work with a state-of-the-art CT system.
I also met several Swiss students. They showed me their curriculum and I was able to see that it was largely similar to ours. It is only the ratio between theory and practice which varies, and their internships were largely completed at the university clinic itself.”
