Student projects

Collaboration in project teams is a key success factor of the degree programme. In the research-related practical projects, students solve current problems from industry and/or work on research questions. Our degree programme is characterised by ongoing practical projects, often in the areas of logistics, process and quality management, human resources and strategy, production management, purchasing and sales as well as controlling. The projects are modelled in the same way as those at the elite American university MIT: real business problems, real assignments from companies, real contracts with the students, who work on and solve a topic in teams led by specialists from the institute.

To date, over 550 such projects have been carried out at companies ranging from A for Andritz to V for voestalpine. You can find a selection of our research projects here.

The research at the institute covers the entire industrial value chain, from production control and logistics to business model development and digitalisation. The aim is to improve the competitiveness of companies through new digital solutions. The main areas of research include

  • Industry 4.0 / Industry 5.0 and digital transformation in production (including with AI and data analytics)
ERP and MES with horizontal and vertical integration
  • Supply chain management and logistics
  • Corporate management and controlling
  • New Work

Industrial Research Project

In the Industrial Research Project our students work together with their colleagues from the Bachelor’s degree programme in Industrial Management and can gain first-hand experience in project and personnel management. These projects are closely related to research and teaching, giving project members the opportunity to solve current problems and/or research questions in areas such as logistics, procurement, enterprise resource planning (ERP) and financial controlling. The projects are an important factor in the success of the degree programme and help to prepare students for their future careers in the best possible way. In addition to specialisation, the industrial research project also contributes to personal development by promoting social skills, leadership qualities as well as presentation and moderation skills.
