Social Work

Our students complete project-oriented work relating to research in social work from the very first semester onwards, addressing current project-based issues in various classes. The interlinking of social science practices and practical knowledge is of particular relevance for students and their future professional lives. Their projects therefore revolve around planning as well as the concrete implementation of research issues in professional practice.

As part a research day in the second semester, students gain insight into the research process and explore topics of the August Aichhorn Institute by applying and reflecting on social work research in small groups.
Students prepare and implement a research project in the third semester, which regularly provides topics for the Master’s thesis.

As part of their Social Policy, Social Economy and Social Management course, students organised and implemented a final public seminar on the issue of unequal opportunities in Austria. Relevant content was devised in five thematic areas and communicated to the audience by the students. The presentations were entitled as follows:

• Money rules the world
• Health between heritage, class and McDonalds
• Education = Heritage?
• We are family
• Flight without end

During the subsequent discussions with participants, students learnt to argue their own case and react appropriately to criticism.
