Technical Documentation

Complex technical products and feature-rich software have an increasing impact on all areas of our lives. Technical documentation media play an important role in ensuring that we can use new devices both quickly and safely as well as enjoy using them. They also ensure that products or systems comply with any legal requirements. Graduates of this postgraduate course are qualified technical editors and are increasingly sought-after on the job market.

What you will learn:

Legal Requirements & CE Conformity

Our students learn about the relevant legal regulations and norms. These aim to ensure that the legal requirements for internal and external documentation products are met with regard to safety of users and protection of manufacturers against product liability and warranty claims.

Editorial Systems & Document Architectures

You will be made familiar with popular mark-up languages and editing systems and learn how to implement efficient and cost-effective documentation processes.

Professional Writing

You learn and acquire confidence in using target-group-specific technical German, characterised by clarity, style, standardisation and consistent, translation-oriented phrasing. Commonly used software tools are introduced, explained and used.

Documentation Processes & Quality Management

At project management level, the technical editor is responsible for the entire process chain involved in the preparation of documentation products. This is why we ensure you gain a good grasp of all the relevant sub-processes.

Language Management & Localisation

Translations into national languages are a legal requirement for the export of technical products to most countries. You therefore learn about commonly used software tools and systems, which are required for the development and implementation of high quality, cost-effective translation processes.

Media Production

Technical documentation is published for a wide variety of media - primarily as print media but also in digital form on the internet or as an app with multimedia components. Students therefore also focus on new media technologies and various applications.
