FAQs

There are various ways to get to FH JOANNEUM in Kapfenberg from Graz:

  • By Railjet: Take the Railjet at Graz main station, which runs every hour in the direction of Vienna. The journey takes around 40 minutes to Kapfenberg. Once there, change to the S-Bahn line S9, which will take you directly to the stop ‘Kapfenberg Fachhochschule Bahnsteig’. From the stop, it is only a short walk to the campus.
  • By S-Bahn via Bruck an der Mur: An alternative route is the S-Bahn line S1, which takes you from Graz to Bruck an der Mur station. This journey takes a little longer as the train stops at more stations. In Bruck an der Mur, change to the S-Bahn line S9, which in turn takes you to the ‘Kapfenberg Fachhochschule Bahnsteig’ stop.
  • Of course, there is also the option of travelling by car, which is not so sustainable: Start in Graz Nord and take the A9/E57. Take the A9/E57 motorway and then change to the S35 in the direction of Wien/Bruck an der Mur. Stay on the S35 and continue until you merge onto the S6. Take exit 73-Kapfenberg from the S6 to get onto Mariazeller Straße/B20. Follow the signs to Werk-VI-Straße, which will take you directly to FH JOANNEUM.

Travelling from Leoben:
For students travelling from the Leoben area, the S-Bahn line S8 is a convenient travel option. Take the S8 to Bruck an der Mur and change there to the S-Bahn line S9 in the direction of Mürzzuschlag. This will take you directly to the Kapfenberg Fachhochschule platform.

From the direction of Mürzzuschlag:
If you are coming from the direction of Mürzzuschlag, the S-Bahn line S9 in the direction of Bruck an der Mur is the best choice. This connection takes you directly to the Kapfenberg Fachhochschule platform without changing trains.

WIST student residence: If you are looking for a sociable living environment close to the university, then the WIST student residence is just right for you. The 3-person flats offer each person their own room, while the bathroom and kitchen are shared. This allows you to enjoy privacy and at the same time the advantages of living together as students. In the communal rooms with table tennis, table football and pool table, boredom is guaranteed to be a thing of the past. There is a laundry room for your laundry and you can celebrate with friends in the party room. A fitness room and a covered inner courtyard round off the offer.

Brucker Wohnbau: If you prefer more independence and peace and quiet, the one-bedroom flats at Brucker Wohnbau are a good choice. Here you have your own space with a kitchenette and bathroom.

Both the WIST student residence and the Brucker Wohnbau are just a 5-minute walk from Kapfenberg UAS. This saves you time travelling to lectures.

Graz: If you are drawn to the big city, Graz is also an attractive option thanks to its good public transport connections. This means you can enjoy the advantages of studying in Kapfenberg and the wide range of activities on offer in the Styrian capital.
